Our Backstory
CITEC’s story began in 1992, when Jan Willem Timmer at ELBO Technicks developed the first device after being approached by a professor in Neurology who worked for theUniversity Medical Center in Groningen, The Netherlands (now UMCG).
The request was simple but important. Professionals needed a practical and reliable way to measure objectively human strength.
Citec Motion became the tool that helped professionals measure more objectively, follow progress more clearly, and make decisions with more confidence.
Over time, the CITEC HHD (hand held dynamometer) became more trusted in medical and scientific environments. Its technology was adopted by neurology departments but also in physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and in pharma research, while being shipped to professionals around the world.
Today, CITEC Motion is entering a new phase. With new ownership, renewed technology, the development of a new prototype and web app, and the ambition to bring production closer to the Groningen region, the company continues to build on the same foundation: reliable measurement, practical innovation, and real value for professionals.
